Omaha O8...

So before I get going I have to say- I must be the worst blogger in history. My intent is to blog once a week or maybe more, but for the last 4 or 5 months it has been about once a month, if I'm lucky.

Anyway, I played in an Omaha O8 tourney at Big Geoff's last week. It went pretty well. I will say at the beginning I was coming into pots with hands I had no business playing. I think it was just because I was excited to play something other than hold 'em. It hit me in about level 2 or 3 that I needed to be a little more strict on my starting hands. As soon as I started tightening up the reigns I started doing much better.

The tourney had 14 players (a decent turn out for O8). It didn't take too long to get to the final 8, then all of a sudden I found myself at in the last 5, 4, and then 3. When we got down to three handed I had a couple key hands. The first one was not all that great for me. The short stack was in the BB (with maybe about 5 BB's left). I picked up A 3 10 10 (double suited). I raised with the intent just taking blinds, but I had decided if the BB wanted to play it out all the way...I was game. Sure enough he wanted to get some chips in as well. Turns out he had Q Q and something like a 5 7 (no suits). The flop wasn't too bad: 2 6 9. I was drawing to the nut low, and could still hit an ace to win the high. Well, I just bricked out instead. The turn was a J and the river was another 6.

The other hand of note was a good one for me. It was 3 handed...with all three players in. I picked up A 3 4 5 (with one suit). I managed to scoop the whole thing. I nailed the nut low, and paired my ace which miraculously enough held for the high.

A few hands later Shaunbusted went out, and I found myself heads up with a pretty good chip lead. I had about 165,000 to my opponent's 115,000. We were at the 4,000/8,000 level, and decided to chop it up with me taking a larger piece for my chip lead. It was a pretty good night.

I will say real quick I played some NLHE cash the other night...MAN...I need to get better at cash games. I was up for a while, but ended up cashing out slightly down. Oh well, I guess that will be my new focus. We will see how it goes.
